Every month, many girls in Kenya are unable to attend school due to the lack of sanitary pads. This has played a major role in the lack of women’s empowerment and the equal access to education for girls. Limited access to safe, affordable, convenient and culturally-appropriate methods for dealing with menstruation has far-reaching implications for the rights, physical, social and mental well-being of many women and adolescent girls in Kenya. It undermines sexual and reproductive health and the well-being of girls.
Sistercup is a programme under Sisternet that lobbies, advocates and mobilizes towards creating social, environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions to issues affecting women of the world. In The Sistercup Pilot Project we will be working with girls in the informal settlements of Nairobi in Kenya on the usage of the menstrual cups. We will conduct dialogue circles with the girls who are between 13 and 18 years to talk about the challenges they face and to come up with an action plan for dealing with the problem.
Our motto: Promote sisterhood among women.
